Puget Sound PMI is proud to announce a new workshop on Leading with Cultural Intelligence:

As our communities become increasingly more diverse and organizations are expected to do more to advance social equity and responsibility, the 'one-size-fits-all' approach to leadership is no longer sufficient to effectively engage an increasingly multicultural, multi-ethnic and multi-lingual array of project stakeholders. More than ever before, the capacity to manage and leverage cultural differences is becoming a critical skill for individuals at all levels of the organization, especially those working on projects and programs that engage culturally and linguistically diverse communities and stakeholders.
Drawing from the growing body of research in cognitive, social, and cultural neuroscience, the workshop will present a framework for understanding how culture shapes the brain and the core cultural dimensions that drive thoughts, emotions, and behavior in global, virtual, and culturally diverse project environment.

Understanding these dimensions will help you make the right choice for how to approach:

  • Making decisions and solving problems
  • Reaching agreements and gaining commitments
  • Raising issues and dealing with conflict
  • Giving negative feedback and handling bad news
  • Building trust, rapport, and psychological safety

You will come away from the workshop with a greater understanding of the challenges of engaging culturally diverse communities and stakeholders. You will understand the difference between the “core” self and the “flexible” self and how you can remain authentic to core values while flexing style to engage effectively. You will learn how to prevent cultural misunderstandings from turning into dignity violations that erode trust and undermine engagement and inclusion.

Learning Objectives:

  • Acquire a deeper understanding of own culture and how it impacts behavior in a multicultural setting
  • Build the confidence to motivate and influence stakeholders, clients, suppliers, and colleagues from different cultures
  • Learn to adapt your comAcquimunication and leadership styles to the needs and demands of cross-cultural environments
  • Develop the skills to increase collaboration, trust, and team effectiveness for optimal performance
  • Gain practical tips, techniques, and strategies for overcoming a variety of common challenges of leading across cultures

Who should attend?

  • Project Managers, Functional Managers, team leaders, and line managers working in multicultural teams
  • Individual contributors working in multicultural teams or in different culture
  • Managers and leaders who are leading diverse, multicultural, and international teams
