Overview Overview Agile Sprint Series #4 - User Story Workshop

Successful projects require an effective method for defining and understanding requirements. User stories provide a perfect medium for understanding the user and their needs, while also providing the information needed for effective construction and testing. User stories allow us to gather and define requirements in a language that the business and project team can both comprehend. This leads to more accurate project results and delivery which leads to higher customer satisfaction. It also allows a more collaborative process to discuss, understand and define the requirements with your product or business representative.

We will use a case study to experience evolving high-level project goals into explicit user stories. By doing this you will leave the workshop with a clear understanding of what user stories are and how to use them effectively on your projects.

You Will Learn:

  • The six criteria for defining an effective user story
  • How user stories relate to traditional requirement gathering techniques
  • How to run a user story workshop for your project
  • How to manage your requirements backlog for the duration of the project and beyond
  • How to use story mapping for collaborative requirements gathering – great tool!
  • Alternative ways to create story backlogs, including flow diagram conversion, and, business process reengineering
  • How use stories when configuring an off the shelf or SaaS product?

Prerequisites & Audience
There are no prerequisites for this workshop. It is designed to cover the needs of the Agile/Scrum novice and the experienced Agilista.  Experience with a project related to technology or software deployment would be helpful but not necessary. Past attendees included project managers, product managers, developers, business analysts, designers, DBAs, architects, executives and managers.
